The basis of any hobby is fun and that’s just what Drift Shenanigans did on Sunday 17th, September 2017 in conjunction with TTASA, as they fielded the first drift event of the season. Formally called Sunday Skids, this event was a drift day more than a competition with the core intention being to reignite drifting and the associated following after the sport took a frustrating hiatus.

Blessed by excellent weather, packed stands of drift-hungry spectators and over 30 entrants the tracksegmented into two. This initiative hereby allowed the beginners and advanced drifters to have their respective playgrounds without fear of encroachment on each other, and was well received amongst both tier of driver along with nods of approval from previously wary safety personnel.

Joining in on the fun were various radio-controlled drifters associated with Drift Shenanigans- this other caliber of drifter enjoyed a small course to exercise the insane control they have over these scale 1:10 machines. The maxed out steering angles and realistic tandem battles put on by the drifters tickled the fancies of both child and adult alike.

At around 2PM a briefing meeting was held by TTASA President Fyzool Madan and Drift Shenanigans event coordinator, Roger Hutcheon where the 1:1 (actual car) drifters were notified of the option to run a small just for fun competition- at which point the majority vote ruled in favour of a small precision course attacked by one drifter at a time as opposed to tandem battles.

After being lightly judged based on proximity to clipping points and general impression by TTASA associates Wazeer Khan, Imran Ramatally and Rafeez Mohammed it was Rajive Suchit (Nissan S13), Dario Jordan (Nissan A31) and Imran Khan (Nissan C33) who were crowned as the respective winners- receiving trophies et al.

Now this leaves the question of when is the next one? All we can say at this point is keep checking our social medias for more info… FB|IG: @driftshenanigans.

Sunday Skids would not be possible without the Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) and help of the following sponsors: Motul, Meguiars, VP Racing Fuels, Carib Beer,, Zorce Racing Magazine and Unlimited Tyres.
